11 years ago Karl Lagerfeld debuted yearly Metiers d’Art runway show to celebrate the special skills (‘métiers d’art’) of the associated workmanship specialties, and dedicated to the history of the house’s founder, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Unlike Chanel’s RTW and couture shows the Métiers shows always held in December, often take place outside Paris.
Lagerfeld is a storyteller and typically tries to find a connection to the location (which he selects) to reference a place with great meaning in the company’s history and to the life of Coco Chanel herself.
From influence of Scotland (bellow) where she discovered tweeds, Venice, where she loved to go, Russia (right) for her love of Russian art to Dallas in 2013!
Lagerfeld credits positive reviews in American press as a key factor behind Coco Chanel’s success in 1954 when she reopened couture house in Paris, while criticized by French journalists in her homeland…
2013 Maitre d’Art runway show on December 10th will be the celebration of American legacy behind Chanel’s come back to fashion scene, and turning point in her career in mid fifties, with creative director himself in the attendance. Dallas is ready to welcome Chanel!
